don't be silenced by covid
When it comes to sexual violence, don’t be silenced by Covid.
There has been a decrease in the number of people attending Sexual Assault Treatment Units (SATUs) in recent months. SATUs are a safe place to go if you have been raped or sexually assaulted - your health and wellbeing is their priority. You will receive a full health check up and you may also avail of a forensic exam.
If you have been at a party, or hanging out with people outside the restrictions, you can still get help.
What are Sexual Assault Treatment Units?
A Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) is a safe place to go if you have been raped or sexually assaulted. The staff there help anyone who has had any unwanted sexual contact, of any kind. You may bring a friend or family member with you and all care is free.
When you arrive at a SATU, your healthcare is the top priority. You will be offered a full health check, whether or not you decide to have a forensic exam. SATU’s care for people of all genders and identities, aged 14 and over. If you are under 14, you can get help at Child and Adolescent Forensic Medical Assessment Services.
Following your visit to SATU, you may want to talk and look for further support. This is where your local rape crisis centre can help - rape crisis centres across the country provide counselling and support to survivors of sexual violence. You can find a full list of centre's and contact information here on our website.
