LEGISLATION NEEDS to be introduced to deal with organised prostitution, much of which takes place in private settings where the purchase of sex is not an offence under existing Irish law, according to Ruhama, the organisation that offers support to those affected by prostitution. Most sex offenders ‘known to victims’

Only 6 per cent of sexual violence reported to rape crisis centres in 2010 was perpetrated by strangers, according to a report released today.

The Rape Crisis Network National Statistics and Annual Report 2010 found a third of perpetrators were family members, a third were friends, acquaintances or neighbours and almost 12 per cent were authority figures. Less than one in ten were strangers.

90% of survivors of rape know attacker

New data released by Rape Crisis Network Ireland indicates that the perpetrator is known to the survivor in nine out of 10 single incidents of rape or sexual violence. Sexual abuse of children by strangers is just 3 per cent. For full article please click here.

A WOMAN has been jailed for four years after she sold a teenage girl to a man who paid €50 for sex with her.The 64 year old took his life three days after gardaí began investigating the case.

Remilekun Thomas, aged 39, of Fortlawn Park, Blanchardstown, admitted two charges of using a child for sexual exploitation in Dublin in May 2008.
